Ross Abdallah Alameddine, 20, Saugus. A friend called him “an intelligent, funny, easygoing guy who will be greatly missed.” Another friend said that “he was one of the nicest, wittiest people you'll ever know. He will be truly missed by all”

Christopher James Bishop, 35, an instructor in Foreign Languages and Literatures.

Brian Bluhm, 25, formerly of Detroit.

Ryan Clark, 22, Martinez, Ga., biology and English major. Ryan was known as “Stack” to his friends in the Marching Virginians college band. He was a senior at Virginia Tech senior one friend called him “a true example of ‘The Spirit Of Tech.’” He was a brilliant student who had an impeccable 4.0 GPA. He was a resident assistant at West Ambler Johnston Hall, the dormitory where he and another person were murdered at 7:15 a.m. Monday. His dream was to pursue a doctorate in psychology with a focus in cognitive neuroscience.

Austin Cloyd, age unknown, an international studies major from Blacksburg.

Jocelyne Couture-Nowak, a French instructor at Virginia Tech, was instrumental in the creation of the first French school in a town in Nova Scotia. She was one of three mothers who pushed for the founding of the Ecole acadienne de Truro in 1997.

Matthew G. Gwaltney, 24, Chester, Va., a graduate student in civil and environmental engineering.

Caitlin Hammaren, 19, Westtown, N.Y., a sophomore majoring in international studies and French.

Jeremy Herbstritt, 27, Bellefonte, Pa., a Penn State University graduate who was attending grad school at Virginia Tech.

Rachael Hill, 18, Glen Allen, Va.

Emily Jane Hilscher, a 19-year-old freshman from Woodville.

Jarrett L. Lane, 22, Narrows, Va.

Matthew J. La Porte, 20, a sophomore from Dumont, N.J.

Henry J. Lee, also known as Henh Ly, 20, a freshman computer engineering major.

Liviu Librescu, 76, engineering science and mathematics lecturer.

G.V. Loganathan, 51, civil and environmental engineering professor.

Partahi Lumbantoruan, 34, of Indonesia, civil engineering doctoral student.

Lauren McCain, 20, of Hampton, Va., international studies major.

Daniel O'Neil, 22.

Juan Ortiz, a 26-year-old graduate student in engineering from Bayamon, Puerto Rico.

Erin Peterson, Centreville, Va., graduated from Westfield High School last year.

Minal Panchal, 26, Mumabi, India, a first-year building-science student.

Michael Pohle, 23, Flemington, N.J.

Julia Pryde, age unknown, a graduate student from Middletown, N.J.

Mary Karen Read, 19, was born in South Korea into an Air Force family and lived in Texas and California before settling in Annandale, Va.

Reema Samaha, a graduate of Westfield High School in Chantilly, Va.

Waleed Mohammed Shaalan, Zagazig, Egypt, a doctoral student in civil engineering, according to the university.

Leslie Sherman graduated from West Springfield High School.

Maxine Turner, Vienna, Va., chemical engineering major, graduated from Madison High School in 2003.

Nicole White, 20, Smithfield, Va.
